Programs & Services

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)

Valencia is supportive of extended learning experiences for gifted students. Children who qualify for the GATE program participate in a variety of activities that extend the regular classroom program. Children in this program have been screened and tested

At Valencia, students in grades 3-6 are clustered and receive instruction by GATE certified teachers who are trained in differentiated instructional strategies.  For more information about GATE, please click here or visit the Upland Unified School District website.

RSP Services

A special education teacher meets regularly with students who have identified learning needs. Individual programs are set up to meet a wide variety of individual learning needs such as poor visual memory, weak auditory perception, reversals, inability to concentrate, etc. RSP programs are a form of special education available to students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, who are having trouble in one or more areas of learning. If you are concerned about your child's progress, please contact the school.

Multi-Tiered System of Support Team

When a student experiences difficulty in any area of his/her school life (academically, socially, physically, emotionally), he/she may be referred to the MTSS Team. The team, composed of teachers, our school psychologist, the principal, and the parents, studies the student’s situation and makes recommendations to help alleviate the problem. The MTSS Team is a positive, creative force in finding appropriate solutions to students‘ difficulties at school.

Fifth and sixth graders may join the Valencia School Band. Students leave their regular classes two periods a week for instrumental music lessons. They are expected to practice as well as keep up with their regular academic studies. There are a limited number of district musical instruments available for students to use.

We are proud of our library, and it is our intention that the library be accessible to all students. Regular library hours are maintained and every classroom is guaranteed a special time weekly. Library books may be checked out on a one-week basis. New books and resources are purchased yearly to keep updated materials available. We have a paid library clerk and many volunteers to assist students.

Health Services

Valencia is served 7 hours daily by a health aide who tends to children who become ill, administers first aid, verifies absences, and maintains local, state, and federal health requirements and records. Major health screening and counseling is performed by the district’s registered nurse.
